The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) is part of the field organization of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL), the national membership association for Amateur Radio operators. The ARRL is a not-for-profit organization that promotes interest in Amateur Radio communication and experimentation, establishment of Amateur Radio networks to provide electronic communications in the event of disasters or other emergencies, furtherance of the public welfare, advancement of the radio art, and education in the field of electronic communication.
The Amateur Radio Emergency Service of The District of Columbia (ARES DC) is an organization of licensed Amateur Radio Service operators who volunteer time and resources to provide communications support in the event of disasters or emergencies in Washington, DC or neighboring jurisdictions. Our members plan, prepare, and train together to effectively maintain communications networks in adverse conditions. We demonstrate capabilities, improve practice, support our community and neighbors through public service events, public safety exercises, and emergency operations.
